Adani Airports unveils ₹10,000 cr expansion plan for Lucknow Airport

Lucknow: Adani Airports has announced a massive ₹10,000 crore investment to expand and modernize Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) in Lucknow, marking one of the largest private sector airport development projects in Uttar Pradesh.
The multi-phase plan will focus on boosting passenger capacity, upgrading infrastructure, introducing advanced technologies, and expanding cargo facilities.
So far, the operator has invested around ₹2,401 crore in building a new terminal and improving road connectivity. Currently, CCSIA can accommodate 8 million passengers annually.
With the second phase of Terminal 3 slated for completion by 2026–27 and an additional ₹900 crore investment, the airport’s capacity is expected to increase to 14 million passengers per year.
A key feature of the upcoming expansion is the introduction of “swing operations,” a flexible model that allows common facilities to serve both domestic and international flights based on demand.
Adani Airports stated this system will improve operational efficiency, reduce crowding, and create a better travel experience, while also reflecting local culture and art in the terminal’s design.
Presently, the airport has seven aerobridges, can handle Type D aircraft, and offers parking for 15 planes. Connectivity has been growing steadily, with 42 direct routes available—31 domestic and 11 international. International travelers account for nearly 19% of overall passenger traffic.
On the cargo front, the company aims to establish a handling capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes within the next five years. Plans are also underway to introduce new international routes, including direct services to Singapore and Vietnam.
Officials highlighted the airport’s importance to the regional economy, as Lucknow contributes close to 4% of Uttar Pradesh’s GDP. Adani Airports said the expansion is aligned with its long-term vision of transforming Lucknow into a leading aviation hub in northern India, serving both passenger growth and trade.
