Mizoram may hand over Lengpui airport to AAI

Chief Minister Lalduhoma discussed this possibility with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday.

Aizawl: The Mizoram government is considering transferring the state’s only airport, located in Lengpui near Aizawl, to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), an official stated on Friday.

According to the official, Chief Minister Lalduhoma discussed this possibility with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday. Further discussions between the state government, Shah, and the civil aviation ministry are expected to take place.

During a session in the state assembly on Thursday, Lalduhoma mentioned that Shah had proposed the idea of transferring Lengpui Airport to the AAI.

The state government is open to this suggestion, and opposition parties, as well as NGOs, have also expressed their support for the move.

Previously, the chief minister had indicated that the government was preparing a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to transfer the airport to the Indian Air Force (IAF). However, this proposal faced opposition from the Mizo National Front (MNF), the Congress, and several other organizations.
