New Delhi: The Jewar international airport is emerging as the largest airport in Asia and regular operations will start from April, Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said in Rajya Sabha.

Responding to supplementaries during Question in the Rajya Sabha, he said the airlines are also excited to start operations from there and improve connectivity across the world, according to a news report.

“Jewar airport is emerging as the country’s and Asia’s biggest airport. We have conducted the validation flight in December at the airport.

“Everything is going according to timelines and very soon in the month of April we will see regular operations starting from Jewar-Noida international airport,” the minister told the Upper House.

He said all airlines including Air India and Indigo are very excited to improve connectivity from the Noida airport.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited – a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International – is responsible for the vast new hub’s development, construction and operations.

“We are working towards building a truly exceptional passenger experience, seamlessly blending the warmth of Indian hospitality and design with Swiss technology and efficiency,” Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer at Noida International Airport (a Zurich Airport Group Company) said in a previous interview.

The airport completed its validation flight on 9 December and is set to welcome 12 million passengers annually in its initial phase, with expansion plans that will ultimately accommodate 70 million passengers per year.

Additionally, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation plans to extend the Golden Line to improve connectivity between Noida International and Indira Gandhi International airports. “… The airport lies right next to Noida expressway and we will see connectivity of roads happening very soon,” the minister said.
