CSMIA sees over 5 million international arrivals in eight months

The United Arab Emirates remains the airport’s top source market, accounting for approximately 1.5 million arrivals in the period.

Mumbai: Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) welcomed more than 5 million international passengers between January and August 2025, marking a steady surge in global connectivity. 

This marks a continued upward trend: in the same period in 2024, arrivals stood at 4.8 million, and just 4.1 million in 2023. 

Over the past three years, international arrivals at CSMIA have grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 21%. CSMIA now offers direct connectivity to 55 international destinations, reflecting its expanding role as a global gateway. 

 The United Arab Emirates (UAE) remains the airport’s top source market, accounting for approximately 1.5 million arrivals in the period. 

In the 12 months to August 2025, the airport handled 8.24 million international arrival passengers, further underlining its role in global mobility. Among emerging contributors to passenger flows were Colombo (0.17 million arrivals), Kuwait (0.16 million), and Dammam (0.16 million). 

A standout month was January 2025, which saw 0.69 million international arrivals—a 415 % increase over January 2022, showcasing swift recovery post‑pandemic. 

With traffic rising and routes expanding, CSMIA is reinforcing its status as one of India’s busiest and most globally connected airports—serving both business and leisure travellers alike.
