Maharashtra’s Amravati Airport secures DGCA approval

This development is part of Maharashtra’s broader efforts to strengthen aviation infrastructure.

Belora: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued an aerodrome license for Amravati Airport, and Alliance Air is expected to launch flights between Amravati and Mumbai by the end of March, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently announced.

Situated in Belora, Amravati Airport was initially developed by the Public Works Department in 1992 but was not utilized for public operations. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), a state-run entity, has since upgraded the facility, extending the runway and making necessary regulatory improvements to meet licensing requirements.

This development is part of Maharashtra’s broader efforts to strengthen aviation infrastructure, which also includes enhancements to airports in Chandrapur, Dhule, Shirdi, and Navi Mumbai.

Fadnavis shared the update on X, highlighting that securing the aerodrome license is a major step forward, paving the way for commercial flights from Amravati. He emphasized that this will boost regional connectivity and provide economic benefits.

“Alliance Air will commence operations on the Amravati-Mumbai-Amravati route by the end of this month, marking the airport’s first scheduled commercial flights,” he stated.

Earlier in the day, MADC Managing Director Swati Pandey officially handed over the DGCA certification to the Chief Minister.
