Dubai Airport introduces world’s first AI passenger corridor to ease travel

The innovation aims to speed up movement through the airport, allowing travelers to bypass conventional passport control.

Dubai: Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest hub for international passengers, has unveiled what it calls the first artificial intelligence–powered passenger corridor.

The innovation aims to speed up movement through the airport by allowing travelers to bypass conventional passport control. The launch coincides with one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Between August 13 and 25, more than 3.6 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport—an average of about 280,000 daily—largely due to the back-to-school rush.

How the corridor functions

Nicknamed the “red carpet,” the system relies on AI to identify passengers before they even approach immigration counters. Travellers simply walk through the corridor while the technology verifies their identity automatically.

Up to ten people can be processed simultaneously. If any irregularities are detected, the system alerts officers for additional checks, ensuring security remains intact.

Why it matters

Traditional immigration desks handle travellers one at a time, but this new approach effectively doubles processing capacity while cutting waiting times.

The initiative is part of Dubai’s wider ambition to enhance its reputation as a pioneer in smart travel and cement its position as more than just a transit hub.
