AIESL eyes strategic tie-ups for aircraft IP to strengthen MRO services

Analysts say that strengthening indigenous MRO capabilities could reduce dependence on overseas services, cut turnaround times, and generate employment.

New Delhi: State‑owned AI Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) is intensifying efforts to partner with firms that can provide access to proprietary aircraft intellectual property (IP), technical manuals, and up‑to‑date documentation.

These materials are crucial for carrying out high‑end component maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations, industry officials said.

Following its separation from Air India in early 2022, AIESL has faced limitations in accessing OEM manuals and updated literature, making it harder to keep certain shops aligned with global maintenance standards.

The company, which employs over 5,000 people and serves more than 25 foreign and domestic carriers, aims to expand its client base and enhance facility utilization.

For the financial year ending March 2026, AIESL has set ambitious revenue growth targets. To realise these, it is exploring strategic tie‑ups that grant IP access, enabling it to retain advanced repair capabilities domestically.

AIESL has facilities in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Nashik and Thiruvananthapuram.

India’s aviation sector is among the fastest‑growing globally, with over 1,400 aircraft on order domestically. Analysts say that strengthening indigenous MRO capabilities could reduce dependence on overseas services, cut turnaround times, and generate employment, a news report stated.
