Domestic air traffic in India experienced a notable uptick of approximately 5% in February, with 126.48 lakh individuals taking to the skies.

Comparing to the previous year’s figures, the traffic surged from 120.69 lakh to 126.48 lakh during the same period.

The Air India group airlines witnessed an enhancement in their market share, reaching 28.8% compared to January’s 28.2%, primarily due to Air India’s share rising from 12.2% to 12.8%.

IndiGo observed a slight decline in its market share, dropping from 60.2% in January to 60.1%.

According to DGCA, “Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January – February 2024 were 257.78 lakh, as against 246.11 lakh during the corresponding period of the previous year, thereby registering an annual growth of 4.74% and a monthly growth of 4.80%.”

SpiceJet experienced a decrease in its domestic market share from 5.6% to 5.2%, while Vistara, Akasa Air, and Air India Express managed to maintain their respective shares at 9.9%, 4.5%, and 6.1%.

DGCA reported, “The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of February 2024 has been 0.90 per cent,” with Zoom recording the highest cancellation rate at 7.69%, while Akasa Air had the lowest at 0.30%.
