Vista makes history with evidence-based training certification

Malta: VistaJet Limited, the operating partner of global private aviation group Vista, has become the first business aviation operator worldwide to achieve certification for Baseline Evidence-Based Training (EBT), a performance-focused methodology designed to enhance flight crew training and safety.
EBT is a data-driven training framework recognized by regulators in Europe and increasingly regarded as the benchmark for aviation training.
Unlike traditional models, which emphasize repetitive practice of a fixed set of maneuvers, EBT tailors training to real-world performance data and operational needs. This approach aims to build critical thinking, resilience, and decision-making skills among pilots, preparing them for dynamic in-flight scenarios.
VistaJet began adopting EBT in 2018, making it an early mover in the business aviation sector. The company’s approval marks a milestone for the industry, which has typically followed regulatory minimums rather than implementing new methodologies ahead of schedule.
“Achieving certification demonstrates our commitment to investing early in systems and standards that go beyond regulation,” said Nick van der Meer, Chief Operating Officer at Vista. “Safety is at the core of our operations, and evidence-based training is central to preparing our crews for the evolving complexity of aviation.”
The aviation industry has seen rising demand for advanced training methods, driven by increased aircraft utilization, more complex flight operations, and shifting risk factors. Regulators and operators alike are turning to data-led systems to ensure safety standards keep pace with industry growth.
By securing EBT certification, Vista positions itself as a reference point in private aviation, where training frameworks are evolving in line with those long established in commercial airlines. The certification underscores a broader shift in pilot training strategy, as operators seek to align more closely with real-world operational demands.
