FedEx expands direct-serve operations in Saudi Arabia

The move includes the launch of FedEx’s first dedicated flight into Saudi Arabia, the development of a regional hub at the upcoming King Salman International Airport.

Riyadh: FedEx, the world’s largest express transportation company, has announced the completion of its transition to a direct-serve presence in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone in its regional growth strategy.

The move includes the launch of FedEx’s first dedicated flight into Saudi Arabia, the development of a regional hub at the upcoming King Salman International Airport, and the introduction of FedEx Logistics freight forwarding services. Together, these initiatives expand operational capacity, create local jobs, and support Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of economic diversification and global trade integration.

The milestone was celebrated in Diriyah, Riyadh, in the presence of Saudi Transport and Logistics Services Minister H.E. Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Vice Minister H.E. Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, and senior FedEx executives including President & CEO Raj Subramaniam and International COO Richard Smith.

Al-Jasser noted that FedEx’s direct presence highlights Saudi Arabia’s growing status as a premier logistics hub, while Smith emphasized that the Kingdom’s strategic position enables FedEx to connect Asia, Europe, and the Americas with greater speed and reliability.

Under its direct-serve model, FedEx now manages pickup, delivery, and customs clearance in the Kingdom through four gateways and four stations, complemented by digital tools for improved visibility and efficiency. The company has also launched nonstop air service from the U.S. and Europe to Saudi Arabia, making it the only express logistics firm to establish such a link.

Additionally, FedEx Logistics will provide freight forwarding across air, road, and ocean, alongside customs brokerage and transit cargo services, enhancing Saudi Arabia’s connectivity with GCC, South Asian, and African markets.

With a Q1 2025 trade surplus of US$16.8 billion, Saudi Arabia is witnessing strong demand for advanced logistics capabilities. FedEx’s investment strengthens its role in enabling this growth, reinforcing the Kingdom’s transformation into a global logistics powerhouse.
