Indian airlines to operate over 25,ooo weekly flights this summer

New Delhi: Indian airlines are set to operate 25,610 flights per week during the summer schedule of 2025, marking a 5.5% increase compared to the 24,275 weekly flights recorded in the same period last year, according to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Compared to the ongoing winter schedule, which concludes on March 29, the number of weekly departures will see a 2.41% rise. At present, Indian carriers operate 25,007 weekly flights across 124 airports under the winter schedule.
The upcoming summer schedule, effective from March 29 to October 25, 2025, will see operations from 129 airports—five more than in the winter season. Newly added airports include Ambikapur, Datia, Bidar, Porbandar, Pakyong, Rewa, and Solapur, while services at Azamgarh and Rupsi airports have been discontinued.
A total of 11 airlines will provide domestic services during this period, with IndiGo continuing to lead with 14,158 flights per week. Air India follows with 4,310 weekly flights, while Air India Express will operate 3,375 flights.
Among the airlines, Air India has shown the most significant expansion, increasing its weekly departures by 66.67% compared to the winter schedule. Air India Express has also expanded its operations by 19.7%, while IndiGo’s growth stands at 3.41%.
Akasa Air will increase its services by 10.11%, offering 1,089 weekly flights during the summer schedule. In contrast, SpiceJet will scale back operations, reducing its weekly flights to 1,250 from 1,297 in the winter season.
