Indian aviation sees steady growth with 3% rise in June flyers

The domestic aviation sector continued its upward trajectory in June 2025, carrying over 1.36 crore passengers, according to DGCA data.

New Delhi: India’s domestic aviation market maintained its growth momentum in June, with over 1.36 crore passengers flying across the country, according to figures released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 24. This marks a 3% increase compared to May, when passenger traffic stood at 1.32 crore.

IndiGo, the country’s leading airline, experienced a slight dip in market share, moving from 64.6% in May to 64.5% in June. Meanwhile, the Air India Group saw a modest improvement, raising its market share to 27.1%, up from 26.5% in the previous month. Akasa Air retained its 5.3% market share, while SpiceJet witnessed a decline, falling to 1.9%.

According to the report, for the first half of 2025, domestic airlines in India collectively carried 851.74 lakh passengers, reflecting a 7.34% year-on-year increase. This indicates a steady revival and strengthening of the sector, supported by strong demand and increasing flight operations.

The DGCA also reported a cancellation rate of 0.93% for June. Cancellations were primarily attributed to technical glitches, operational challenges, and adverse weather conditions.

Despite these issues, the overall performance metrics point to a resilient aviation industry adapting well to increased passenger volumes and operational demands.
