Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Assesses Runway Works at Delhi Airport

New Delhi: Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, led a high-level meeting at Delhi Airport, on April 21, to discuss pressing operational concerns linked to the ongoing upgrade of Runway 10/28, compounded by unexpected easterly wind patterns affecting flight schedules.

Key officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, including Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam, Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Vipin Kumar, and Director General of Civil Aviation Faiz Ahmed Kidwai were in attendance. Representatives from Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), various airlines, and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) also participated in the discussions.

Minister Naidu reviewed the current scenario, underscoring the need for coordinated efforts to minimize disruptions for travelers and airlines. He called on all stakeholders to work in close collaboration to ensure continued smooth functioning at the airport during this period of infrastructural enhancement.

Emphasizing the importance of proactive planning, the minister instructed all involved to take anticipatory measures in response to evolving weather conditions and to make optimal use of available infrastructure. He stressed that passenger convenience should remain the foremost priority.

The minister also highlighted the need for enhanced coordination among airport authorities, airlines, and ground staff to ensure efficient operations while one of the four runways remains temporarily out of service. He encouraged the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and AAI teams to apply their operational expertise to navigate this critical phase smoothly.

“I am confident that with unified efforts and seamless coordination, Delhi Airport will continue to provide a top-tier experience for passengers, despite the temporary challenges brought by infrastructure upgrades and shifting weather patterns,” said Naidu.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on clear and timely communication with passengers to minimize inconvenience. Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to adhering to project timelines for the runway upgrade while ensuring minimal disruption to flight operations.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of efficiency and passenger service, positioning India’s aviation sector as a model of operational excellence.
