SpiceJet to expand fleet with 10 additional aircraft

New Delhi: SpiceJet is set to expand its fleet by introducing 10 more aircraft by next month, as part of a strategic move to meet growing passenger demand. The airline’s phased fleet enhancement will begin on October 10, with the arrival of the first aircraft.
Of the 10 additions, seven will be sourced through leasing arrangements that have already been finalized, while the remaining three will be reactivated from SpiceJet’s existing grounded inventory. Two of the leased aircraft have already arrived in India and are ready for deployment.
At present, the airline operates 19 aircraft, with 36 still grounded. The planned expansion will significantly boost operational capacity, allowing for improved scheduling and better service coverage, especially during high-demand periods.
This development follows a recent capital boost, with SpiceJet raising ₹3,000 crore via a qualified institutional placement, supplemented by ₹736 crore from an earlier funding round. The financial injection is aimed at strengthening both the airline’s fleet and its overall operations.
The full integration of the leased planes is scheduled to be completed by November 15, while the grounded aircraft will return to service incrementally. This move is expected to ease pressure on capacity and enhance the airline’s competitiveness in the market.
Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh highlighted the importance of this fleet expansion in supporting the airline’s recovery and improving service reliability. He noted that the new aircraft will help meet increased demand and position the airline for sustained growth.
