More than 6,000 volunteers participated in the airport’s most extensive trial and testing exercise to date.

The comprehensive assessment encompassed all systems, including rigorous evaluations of check-in and baggage handling, security screening, boarding gates, and immigration procedures.

Volunteers meticulously evaluated the speed and accuracy of the check-in process, which included document verification and customs inspections. Additionally, they tested boarding procedures and reviewed flight information protocols.

Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Interim Chief Executive at Abu Dhabi Airports, emphasized their commitment to excellence and extensive preparations for the opening of Terminal A. She expressed gratitude to the volunteers for their unwavering support in preparing to welcome passengers to Terminal A in November.

Terminal A is designed to accommodate up to 45 million passengers annually, with the capability to process 11,000 travelers per hour and facilitate the operation of 79 aircraft simultaneously. Spanning an impressive 742,000 square meters, it ranks among the world’s largest airport terminals, significantly enhancing Abu Dhabi International Airport’s capacity for both passengers and cargo.

Upon its opening, Terminal A will serve as the new home for airlines like Etihad Airways, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, and Air Arabia Abu Dhabi. Construction on this monumental project commenced in 2012, with an initial completion target of 2017.
