Economic ties between Saudi Arabia and China in the civil aviation sector are poised for growth as high-ranking officials, led by Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of the Kingdom’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), engaged in discussions in Beijing. The visit aims to explore investment opportunities, foster technology transfer, and advance the aviation industry. A joint roundtable meeting was convened to address cooperation in connectivity, partnership aspects, and the pursuit of innovative solutions in aviation, including sustainable fuels and advanced air mobility.

Both nations expressed interest in integrating artificial intelligence and digital technologies to enhance operational efficiency and the overall aviation experience. The Saudi delegation emphasized substantial investments in the sector, aligning with GACA’s objective of modernizing the airport system and supporting the Kingdom’s tourism goal of attracting 150 million visitors by 2030.

President Al-Duailej highlighted successful initiatives, including significant investments in airline and airport infrastructure, the establishment of Riyadh Air as a new national carrier, and the launch of the master plan for King Salman International Airport. In line with the National Aviation Strategy, Saudi Arabia aims to enhance air connectivity to 250 destinations, serving 330 million passengers, and double air cargo capacity to 4.5 million tons by 2030.

The discussions concluded with an invitation to Chinese firms to explore investment opportunities in the Kingdom and contribute to reshaping the future of global aviation. The broader 11-day tour, including visits to Singapore and the US, underscores the commitment to enhancing travel options, promoting tourism, and facilitating cultural and commercial exchange between the two countries. The upcoming Saudi Airport Exhibition in Riyadh later this year was also highlighted as a platform to assess sector growth in the presence of global aviation leaders.
