Poised to continue to build the business success that RoyalJet has achieved over the last two decades, the new shareholder and seasoned aviation executive Shafiul Syed took charge as the new chief in August 2024.

“I am excited to be joining the RoyalJet family at this time,” Syed said. “The Middle East is going through incredible growth and Abu Dhabi, our home, is very key to many of those advancements. We have an incredible opportunity to further push the company forward to the next level on the global arena.”

1. RoyalJet has carved a unique niche in the luxury charter market. How do you define the company’s value proposition, and what sets RoyalJet apart from other private aviation operators, particularly in the UAE and Europe?

RoyalJet’s rich heritage embodies the Emirati tradition of hospitality. This is reflected through the seamless and customized travel experience we provide. Timeless sophistication and elegance are hallmarks of the RoyalJet brand and our Abu Dhabi heritage that every guest experiences from the moment they set foot into our VIP terminal and throughout their journey.

2. Given the evolving trends in global travel post-pandemic, how has RoyalJet adapted to the shifting demands for private and luxury air travel in 2024? Are there any noticeable changes in passenger preferences or travel patterns?

The travel industry has experienced a significant shift since the pandemic. While the initial surge in demand has tapered off, we’re adapting to new trends. Shorter booking windows and a growing reliance on in-flight connectivity are reshaping the way we deliver travel experiences.

3. Luxury in aviation is about much more than just the flight itself. What are some of the key elements RoyalJet focuses on to elevate the customer experience, from personalised services to onboard amenities?

Every guest of RoyalJet has unique preferences. And whatever these preferences are, whether it be a luxurious, pampered experience, or a more private, tranquil setting to relax and reflect, we ensure that every journey caters to and is tailored towards every guests’ individual needs.

4. How has RoyalJet’s fleet evolved over the years, and what are the key factors that influence your decisions when it comes to fleet expansion or upgrading? Are you considering the integration of any new technologies, such as electric or hybrid aircraft, in the near future?

While having the distinction as the largest BBJ (Boeing Business Jet) in the world, we are unwavering in our commitment to provide the perfect aircraft to the wide ranging needs of the market. From a couple of Bombardier Global 500 aircraft, which although smaller, flies faster and at a higher altitude, we also manage other fleet types such as the Gulfstream, a Boeing 787, an Embraer Praetors and other smaller aircraft.

We are also looking to upgrade our core fleet of BBJ aircraft.

5. RoyalJet has built strong connections between the UAE and Europe. What makes this route particularly significant for your business, and how do you see demand evolving between these regions in the coming years?

Many of our guests maintain residences in Europe who seek a respite from the Middle East’s intense climate. This creates a consistent demand for our services, and we anticipate this trend to continue as more people recognize the value of a seamless, safe, private and luxurious travel experience.

6. What are some of the most pressing challenges facing the luxury aviation sector today, and how is RoyalJet addressing them—particularly in terms of safety, regulation, and rising operational costs?

With the geopolitics around the world not too distant from our home base in Abu Dhabi, operationally there are many existential fly-arounds in place, which add to our cost structure and require greater security screening. And, with safety as the backbone of our operations, our team of safety professionals work tirelessly to safeguard our passengers and crew, ensuring a secure and comfortable journey for everyone. Their expertise and vigilance are invaluable in today’s challenging environment.

7. Sustainability is becoming a focal point across all sectors, including aviation. How is RoyalJet approaching sustainability, and what steps are you taking to minimize your environmental impact while maintaining the luxury experience?

We’ve taken steps towards a more sustainable future through trials of SAF. However, supply constraints have limited its broader use. But we’re not slowing down. We’re continuously seeking innovative solutions and partnering with industry leaders to accelerate the development and availability of SAF. Additionally, we’re implementing eco-friendly practices within our organization to minimise our carbon footprint.

8. What role does technology play in RoyalJet’s operations? From booking processes to in-flight experience, how are you leveraging digital innovation to stay ahead in the competitive luxury travel market?

We have always used many digital services in our business, but that pace needs to accelerate faster and harder. Our goal is to streamline operations and empower our team to focus on what truly matters: delivering exceptional, personalised service to our valued guests.

9. Luxury aviation is often about building strong relationships. Can you talk about any strategic partnerships or collaborations RoyalJet has forged with luxury brands, travel agencies, or other aviation entities to enhance its offering?

Some of our collaborations include Le Labo and Maserati.

Le Labo: Le Labo has crafted a bespoke fragrance exclusively for RoyalJet, elevating the passenger experience. By infusing our cabins with this signature scent, we offer our passengers a truly personalized and memorable experience.

Maserati: Our partnership with Maserati is a seamless extension of RoyalJet’s values of understated luxury and refinement. Maserati’s focus on sophistication and craftsmanship aligns perfectly with our own standards. Through this collaboration, we offer our clients the smooth experience of arriving in the Maserati Levante before boarding their flight. It’s about providing exclusive comfort, convenience, and peace of mind, ensuring a relaxed and seamless journey from the moment they leave home.

10. Looking ahead, what is your vision for the future of RoyalJet? Are there any major initiatives, service expansions, or new markets you’re particularly excited about as the luxury aviation industry continues to evolve?

It is an exciting time for RoyalJet and this region. We are placed at the crossroads between Europe, Africa and Asia and find ourselves in the incredible position of having friends on all sides. Our plans include extending the RoyalJet brand and offering to markets that are enthusiastic for such service. With our legacy, we can offer these regions a truly incredible customer experience.

What’s New?

The private jet operator has taken a significant step forward in expanding its presence and reach across the Asian market. It has begun flying its Bombardier Global 5000 aircraft A6 RJD from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

This move has come in response to the increasing demand for private charters in Asia-Pacific countries following the strong rebound of its economies after the pandemic and increased foreign investments in the region.

Industry reports have indicated that an increasing number of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) in the area have spurred the appetite for comfort, privacy, and time efficiency that business jets offer.

This trend makes Royal Jet’s Bombardier Global 5000 A6 RJD the perfect aircraft to not only meet such demands but to go above and beyond expectations, offering unparalleled service and comfort.

With classically designed interiors developed and crafted utilizing premium materials such as high-end leathers and beautiful wood veneers, perfectly complemented with state-of-the-art technology that includes Swift Broadband WiFi, an iPad-controlled In Flight Entertainment (IFE) System, mood lighting, and a high-quality sound system with overhead speakers and subwoofers.

In addition, the aircraft features some of the lowest cabin altitudes in the industry, along with HEPA filters, which optimise health and comfort, leaving passengers more relaxed and fresh upon reaching their destination. This truly represents an unparalleled way to travel, whether you need to do business or simply catch your breath or that movie you missed!

The aircraft offers a versatile layout for passenger comfort, featuring 13 seats, a galley, a club grouping, a mid-cabin conference area, and an aft VVIP lounge with a VIP lavatory. For relaxation or overnight, it includes a sleeper divan, four VIP seats, and six additional seats.
